Hire a monit (taxi) on the street in Tel Aviv or phone one for an extra fee. By law, cab drivers in Israel must use the meter unless you agree on a fixed price. The ride from Ben Gurion Airport to the city center should take about 20 minutes.
An alternative to a standard taxi that is better on your wallet and on the environment is a shared taxi, or sherut. These are vans that carry six to 12 passengers, stopping mainly at regular bus stops. They can be faster and slightly cheaper than a bus, and unlike buses, sherutim run seven days a week. Please note that shared taxis do not run from the airport to downtown Tel Aviv. They do, however, operate throughout Tel Aviv, and from the airport to other cities in Israel, such as Jerusalem, Be'er Sheva, and Haifa.
